Why Video Content Matters
The internet has undergone significant changes in the last few years, primarily on social media platforms. Even in the last year, we’ve seen the transformation of platforms like Instagram moving away from its traditional photo content to more video ads, business reels, and TikTok videos. So much so, that it made a number of people, including celebrities such as Kim Kardashian call out the change.
Kardashian’s post included a photo asking the platform to “Make Instagram Instagram Again”, urging the app to rethink their new format. “Stop trying to be TikTok, I just want to see cute photos of my friends,” continued the shared post. At the end of July, Instagram announced its plans to scale back some of its recent changes.
While the format of each individual platform is constantly changing and better adjusting to their user base, the kind of content used by businesses has been, ultimately, going towards video. While the Kardashians, and many Instagram users weren’t fans of the ‘reel’ feature, the use of video in general is prominent in user’s stories, and in regular posting. Even Kim herself utilized video posts when marketing her various brands. Then you have platforms like YouTube and TikTok, both being entirely video-based platforms, with hundreds of millions of regular users worldwide. Despite what people may think, video is more popular than ever—just in specific ways.
